Hit Tamil filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu has announced that he is making his debut as a producer with the upcoming Demonte Colony 2 and will also be penning the story, screenplay, and dialogues for the film, which is the sequel to the 2015 smash hit supernatural thriller Demonte Colony. The upcoming film announced on the seventh anniversary of Demonte Colony's release (May 22, 2015) will be directed by Venky Venugopal, a former associate of Ajay Gnanamuthu, and will also see actor Arulnithi Tamilarasu reprising his role from the original.

Ajay Gnanamuthu, who is currently busy with the post-production works for his big-budget directorial Cobra starring 'Chiyaan' Vikram, issued a press release about Demonte Colony 2 while informing that the film will roll into production this July. The Imaikkaa Nodigal director said, "Demonte Colony is very special and close to heart for everyone involved in the project. The feedback and response from audiences, critics and trade circle were completely amazing. The scenario didn’t end there as many producers, distributors, and friends from the film industry inquisitively kept asking about Demonte Colony 2. Such encouragements and positive words prompted me to craft the script. When approached Arulnithi sir, he too liked the script, and we decided to proceed. It’s really great to see that his career graph has escalated a lot now, and his presence in this project would be a great crowd-pulling factor. I’m happy that Arulnithi who believed me and initiated my direction career is again entrusting me and initiating my career as a producer."

Speaking further about Demonte Colony 2, Ajay Gnanamuthu said, "Personally, I have always been fascinated by Hollywood’s ability to create franchises for horror genres like The Friday The 13th, Halloween to the contemporary The Conjuring Universe. With vivid inspiration, we have also decided to take forward Demonte Colony as an uncompromised relentless hard-core horror franchise which will have subsequent parts made hereafter.” We will be kick-starting the shoot of Demonte Colony 2, by July 2022. Currently, we are holding talks with the leading artistes and technicians from the industry, and will accordingly make the official announcements soon."

Director Ajay Gnanamuthu of Demonte Colony and Imaikkaa Nodigal fame is currently busy with Cobra, starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role. Galatta Media got in touch with Ajay for an exclusive live interview to talk about Cobra and other topics in cinema. During the live sessions, one of the fans asked him if he would work with Thala Ajith or Thalapathy Vijay in the future. Ajay had an interesting reply to this and notably, he also revealed what genre the film would be, provided he gets to work with one of these stars.

He said, "Not just me, ask any director out there and you will get the same answer. Obviously we all have the interest and want to work with Vijay sir and Ajith sir. It is a boon for any filmmaker to work with them because your story would reach a massive audience. The reach is phenomenal. I definitely have that wish, but we will have to wait for the right time for that to happen. I always hold onto this genre called thriller.

You can make me patiently sit for hours together if you're narrating a thriller story to me. I like the curiosity and the suspense factor that is there in the thriller genre. So, when I work with them (Ajith or Vijay), it would definitely be a suspense thriller that would keep the audience engaged." Well, that sounds interesting, right? Let's hope Ajay gets to direct the two biggest stars in Tamil cinema soon!

EXCLUSIVE: Director Ajay Gnanamuthu praises Vikram's performance in Cobra | Reveals the best scenes

Cobra, the Chiyaan Vikram starrer, is one of the most expected films of this year that would have released by now, had the Corona scene not occurred. The film will feature Vikram in different makeovers and we saw a glimpse of it already in the first look poster. In a recent exclusive interview with Galatta Media, the film's director Ajay Gnanamuthu shared a few words about the film. He was also all praise for the performance of Vikram and added that it will be a major highlight to watch out for.

He said, "There are a lot of fresh things that we’ve tried in Cobra. Vikram sir is someone who can do anything. He is very flexible and can transform into anything. So, we are utilising him to the fullest. We have played to his strengths. Vikram sir appears in different getups in the film and we've tried different voice tones and modulation for each character. Not just the voice, even the walking style, body language, his eye movement, everything will differ from one character to another.

We have shot for 4 characters so far and the remaining are yet to be shot. While shooting, we never saw Vikram sir. It was just that particular character and nothing else. His performance was so natural and unique that I forgot it was Vikram sir. I can definitely assure you that there are some 4-5 scenes in the film that will be talked about, especially for his performance. These are solid scenes that would justify the performer inside Vikram sir and it has come out so well. There's this one particular conversation scene in the film that I'm sure will be celebrated by the people.

It is just a conversation scene but when you see the final outcome in the film, with the additional support of VFX, Graphics, and music, it will look magical. We shot that scene for six days and it has come out really well. I can surely tell you that scene would definitely go down as one of the best scenes ever for the next 5-6 years. I can't divulge anything more about it." Well, going by what Ajay Gnanamuthu says, it looks like Cobra will have enough exciting scenes that will intensify the movie watching experience. Let us keep our fingers crossed and wait for the film eagerly.

Cobra starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role, is an upcoming Tamil film that has got very good expectations among the fans. Directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of Demonte Colony and Imaikkaa Nodigal fame, Cobra has music scored by A.R.Rahman. This action thriller will feature Vikram in different makeovers and we saw a glimpse of it in the intriguing first look poster. Produced by Lalit Kumar's Seven Screen Studio, Cobra has cinematography by debutant Harish Kannan and editing by Bhuvan Srinvasan.

A few months back, the team had to stop the shoot midway at Russia and return to India as the Coronavirus situation was starting to get worse. As we all know, the entire industry is badly affected by the current situation and it is going to take quite some time to bounce back strongly. Having said that, a section of media had reported that the makers of Cobra are planning to shoot the remaining Russia portions in a studio setup in Chennai, using a green matte. It was said that the makers have opted for this plan due to budget related issues.

However, director Ajay Gnanamuthu vehemently denied the news and clarified that there's no truth to it. He kept the tweet very short and replied, "No!! Not possible". The immediate response from Ajay has helped in stopping the rumours from wide speculations. So, it looks like the team of Cobra will once again travel back to Russia to finish the remaining portions, after everything settles down. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan will be making his debut as an actor with this film and he is said to play the role of an antagonist.

The film's star cast also includes KGF fame Srinidhi Shetty, K.S.Ravikumar, Anandaraj, Mirnalini Ravi, Mia George, Roshan Matthews and others. Check out Ajay Gnanamuthu's clarification tweet below:
