TN Govt plans legal action on those blocking final rites of people dying due to notifiable diseases!
By MKV | Galatta | 07:36 PM
The COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic has been claiming lives across the world mercilessly and is still going about infecting hundreds of thousands of people. The most disheartening aspect of this is that some people have fallen prey to illogical thinking during these sad times and are losing their basic humanity. Just a couple of days ago, there was a shocking incident in Chennai when a group of people protested against the burial of a doctor who had succumbed to the Corona Virus, after fighting on the frontlines to save many patients. The angry protestors even damaged the ambulance, his body was being carried in. Recently, another similar case came to light in Erode, where people protested against the cremation of a man who lost his life at a Government Hospital after succumbing to high fever!
Though many people and the authorities have been talking about the safety measures that are being taken in the cremation of bodies of people who die due to the Corona Virus, there are still some who refuse to accept these and go about protesting against cremation or burial of such cases. The Government had earlier warned such protestors and had also filed cases against those who indulged in such activities. Now, there are reports that the Tamil Nadu Government has promulgated an ordinance to make provisions for fining and/or jailing (1 to 3 years) those who block or attempt to block burial/cremation of any person who dies due to any notifiable disease, under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act! This is a very good step indeed and we hope people understand the gravity of the situation and reach inside themselves to find the lost humanity, in these dark times!

Vishal to team up with this mass action director again?
By Galatta | 01:14 AM
Director M Muthaiah is known for making caste-based action entertainers. His films largely satisfy the expectations of his target audience. He made his directorial debut with a rural action drama Kutti Pulli starring Sasikumar. The film went on to perform well at the box office. He then teamed up with Karthi for Komban which was inspired by the egotistical tussles between his father and his grandmother, scripted the story straight from his own experiences. Following the success of Komban, he made Marudhu featuring Vishal and Sridivya in the lead roles. Muthaiah then went on to do two more films in similar lines. Now it looks like he is going to team up with Vishal again after Marudhu.
Vishal who is personally having a tough time incurring a huge loss during the filming of Thupparivaalan 2 because of a misunderstanding with director Mysskin. Having said that Vishal has taken up the role of a director for Thupparivaalan 2. He also has an army film Chakra directed by a debutant. It looks like he might team up with Muthaiah after this for a rural mass film. More details regarding this project is awaited.
Indian 2 accident: Kamal Haasan's next big action | Lyca | Shankar
By Avinash Pandian | Galatta | 01:00 PM
Kollywood hasn’t yet recovered from the horrific accident that took place at the Indian 2 shooting spot a week ago which led to the deaths of 3 assistants who were part of the film. Kamal Haasan was the only member of the crew to come out and take responsibility for the accident. He in his statement pleaded that more safety measures need to be taken by all the production houses so that no one dies because of such carelessness. Kamal Haasan has now issued a letter to Lyca Production Chairman Subaskaran seeking for a safer work environment for all the staffs associated with Indian 2. His letter reads as follows:
Mr Subaskaran Chairman and Founder Lyca Productions
With a deep sense of anguish, I write this. The events that happened on the night of 19th February 2020 continues to haunt. People with whom we Were laughing, eating and working together are no longer there and the realization that they will never be back is most remorseful.
I was just a few seconds and fewer metres away from the spot where the mishap occurred and miraculously escaped from joining the list of fatalities. I can hardly express my trauma and agony in words. Our ability to compensate can and should never be equated to our sense of responsibility. With so many human lives involved in a shoot, the paramount importance for the Production is to ensure safety of people involved in the shoot. Accidents of this kind only destroy the confidence and belief of the entire team, in the Production team. I want to understand the steps taken by the Production team to ensure the safety of the artists, crew and other technicians involved in the shoot and also the kind of insurance that the Production team has taken. Any loss, cost, damage, risk undergone on account of the Production team failing to carry out what they ought to have carried out has to be compensated in full and at the earliest. As Producers you should ensure the best of medical help to each of those who have been admitted and provide the affected families your utmost support during this time of need, both financially and emotionally. You should ensure to implement all guidelines on safety and institute an audit process to assess safety standards at shoot locations before commencement of any shoot. Only by such positive and proactive steps, the Production team can demonstrate its diligence in adhering to safety requirements and thereby restore the confidence of the cast and crew (including me) to report back for shoot.
