By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 12:00 PM
Actor Suriya had recently spoken about the National Education Policy Draft at a press conference held by the Agaram Foundation. With his speech going on to receive a tremendous response from fans and common folk alike, veteran actor turned politician Kamal Haasan has now expressed his support for Suriya after opposition to his views had come from several political party leaders including the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) H. Raja and Tamilisai Soundararajan.
In an official press note released by the Makkal Needhi Maiam leader, Kamal Haasan has stated, “Suriya and his family have been working for the improvement in the education of poor children for a long time and therefore he has the right to speak about it. "I apologize for speaking the bad word": Suriya gets emotional
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 01:56 PM
Actor Suriya has often spoken about the importance of education for all students despite his busy schedule. Speaking at a press conference held by the Agaram Foundation on the National Education Policy Draft, the star said, "The Federal Government issued National Educational Policy Report which still did not join the awareness, which is why the press meet was held. The Central Government issued the Educational Policy Report until 3rd Standard, first entrance exam, giving equal importance to education by selecting the options equivalently. This is a matter of the lives 30 Crore students so this can change only if parents and teachers take initiatives to ensure the right Education for their children."
Suriya continued saying, "For the past 10 years, over 30% of the students have been going to schools that do not have any teachers. If you ask the students who have come here, they will tell you the same. 30% of the students are writing their 12th standard exams without any teachers in their schools. How can you expect them to write the NEET exam? How can they write 6-8 semesters when there are no teachers? Then, there are entrance examinations. Children clear several entrance exams right from the 3rd standard, in 5th class, till their 12th standard. They do so much hard work and they go through so much stress and tension. And, once they pass all these, they are told none of these matter and that they have to write only one exam, which will serve as their entry for a degree course. We all have seen the problems that have come out in the NEET entrance exams. When they introduced it, approximately 1,80,000 students from government schools had written the Medical Entrance Examinations out of which only one student had qualified under the NEET quota. This year, nearly 60% of the students have cleared the NEET exam and they belong to the 12th standard batch from last year after joining a private coaching centre. This is affecting the balance that exists in our society and in a huge manner. If this is the case for NEET alone, the same policy is being planned next for all other exams."

Fifth time with Suriya - check out who has now joined Soorarai Pottru!
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 04:27 PM
A film that has created massive expectations right from the time of its announcement, Soorarai Pottru, is Suriya’s upcoming next being directed by Irudhi Suttru fame Sudha Kongara under the 2D Entertainment banner. Said to be inspired from the life of G. R. Gopinath, the founder of the airline, Air Deccan, the latest update on the film is that popular comedian and actor turned politician Karunas has joined the film's shooting, which includes actress Aparna Balamurali playing the female lead.
Karunas has established himself to be a solid performer be it in the comedy genre or in films that demand him to adapt accordingly to the mood of the narrative. He has previously shared screen space alongside Suriya in films like Nandha, Pithamagan, Ayan and Masss among which the former two remain etched in the memories of fans. Incidentally, Karunas made his acting debut in Nandha in 2001, which turned out to be a breakout role for him and made heads turn in the Tamil film industry.
Filming on Soorarai Pottru has been progressing at a steady pace ever since production kicked off a while back with the film also including composer G. V. Prakash Kumar scoring music. There is plenty of excitement surrounding the ambitious venture considering Suriya is sporting a short hairstyle reminiscent to his look in films like Nandha and Shree early in his career.
