It was a grand evening at the Galatta Golden Stars 2024 held in Chennai on March 29 as several leading celebrities from Tamil cinema and the entertainment industry graced the star-studded event. Among the prominent names who were celebrated was leading Tamil actor Siddharth, who was honored with the 'Entertainer of the Year' award, which he received from Tamil filmmaker Sasi and Mr Eswar Rao, Founder and Managing Director of Max Gold. Complimenting Siddharth on his performance in Chithha (2023) at the Galatta Golden Stars 2024, Sasi showered his praise on the actor for his efforts and contributions to take Tamil cinema to the next stage recalling how it is a big gesture to not only act in the lead role in the film, but also serve as a producer.

Siddharth, who recently announced his engagement to Tamil actress Aditi Rao Hydari, was also queried about his marriage plans at the Galatta Golden Stars 2024. Speaking about his engagement, the Chithha star said, "Many had told me that we had done this in secret. There's a big difference in doing something in private with family and in secret. The ones whom we didn't call are saying it's a secret, but it was a private ceremony to those whom we know. It all depends on the elders and what they have to say next because this isn't like a shooting date that I can decide on. This is a lifetime date. So, when they say it correctly, it will happen on its own." Upon being queried about how long it took for Aditi Rao to give her nod for his marriage proposal, Siddharth informed, "These questions about how much time it took shouldn't be asked. The end result must be either yes or no. I'll see whether the result is pass or fail. I've never seen how many marks I'll score. I was in tension whether it would be a yes or a no and my name was in the pass list."

Tamil actor Siddharth dropped an update from the highly-anticipated 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan film, Indian 2, revealing that a song shoot is taking place next. Taking to his Instagram Story on Tuesday evening, the Chithha actor informed that a massive dance song will be shot today in the Shankar directorial, while also sharing a performance video of an international artiste revealing that he is his inspiration for dancing. Siddharth's latest statement comes after pictures from the Indian 2 sets popped up on social media earlier this week showing graffiti of Kamal Haasan as Senapathy on tall buildings, while giving fans yet another hint at the grandeur in the film.

The production on Indian 2 is progressing at a steady pace and the entire shooting is expected to come to a wrap soon. Although no release date has been announced yet for the upcoming Kamal Haasan-starrer, social media has been abuzz with speculations that the film will be out as a grand theatrical experience for this summer. A glimpse of Indian 2 introducing Kamal Haasan once again as Senapathy with the core theme of the film centered around corruption was released last year ahead of the Tamil superstar's birthday, which went on to receive a tremendous response.

Indian 2 is the sequel to Indian (1996) and will see Kamal Haasan reprise his role as Senapathy alongside Siddharth who is reportedly playing a journalist. The film is a multi-starrer and also has Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, Delhi Ganesh, Samuthirakani, Brahmanandam, Gulshan Grover making appearances, while late actors Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Manobala, and G. Marimuthu are featured in the ensemble cast. 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander is composing the songs and the background score in Indian 2 and is expected to come out firing on all cylinders akin to his work in Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2023).

Director S. U. Arun Kumar reveals what motivated him to make Chithha: "It was after Siddharth and I planned to make a film that..." (EXCLUSIVE)

Filmmaker S. U. Arun Kumar is best known to Tamil cinema fans for his films Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (2014), Sethupathi (2016), and Sindhubaadh (2019), and his latest directorial, Chithha, starring Siddharth in the lead role is creating waves everywhere. Released in theatres on September 28, Chithha revolves around the topic of child sexual abuse and the hit director has now in an exclusive interview with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, opened up on what motivated him to make the film. Speaking about Chithha, S. U. Arun Kumar stated, "I think it's a personal thing. I mean, it didn't happen to me or anybody that I know. A couple of years back, I kept hearing several news stories about this issue. During the COVID-19 time, I began reading a lot and came across a novel called Kolkata Days, which was about the Suryanelli rape case. I also read another novel titled Bitter Chocolate written by author Pinki Virani. I wasn't able to sleep for over a week after reading that book."

S. U. Arun Kumar further explained, "Even at that point, I wasn't thinking about making a film about this topic. I thought about making this into a film at a later stage since there are so many things to be considered. I was thinking about how to make this into a mainstream film that many people can watch. It was after Siddharth and I planned to make a film that I decided to focus on this issue for the story. The hints that are more personal or more creative affected me a lot at the time. In fact, the news we read and hear, they're nothing. It doesn't come close to even five percent. I'm not talking about the intensity of the thing happening. The numbers that we come across are nothing because the ones where FIRs don't get filed are more. There could be any reason behind not filing an FIR such as the family's reputation getting damaged or people viewing the girl in a wrong manner. Actually, it's wrong to relate child sexual abuse only to girls. It's about the child and pertains to both the male and the female, and in the film, we focused on the girl."

A day after Tamil actor Siddharth walked out of the promotions of his latest film, Chithha (Chikku in Kannada), in Bengaluru, Kannada actor-politician Prakash Raj issued an apology on behalf of all the Kannadigas on Friday, September 29. Prakash Raj wrote on social media stating that the pro-Kannada group that caused the disruption of the media interaction of Siddharth's latest film should rather question the political parties and their leaders for their inability to solve an issue that has been ongoing for decades.

Reposting a video of the incident from the Chikku press meet, Prakash wrote on X, "Instead of questioning all the political parties and its leaders for failing to solve this decades' old issue.... Instead of questioning the useless parliamentarians who are not pressurising the centre to intervene.. Troubling the common man and artists like this can not be accepted.. as a Kannadiga .. on behalf of Kannadigas. sorry #Siddharth #justasking." (sic) The pro-Kannada group that caused the disruption of the Chikku press meet demanded that the event be brought to a halt citing the Cauvery issue. The video showed the members of the group raising slogans leading to the event coming to an early conclusion with Siddharth thanking the press before exiting the venue.

Likewise, in another video that is also now going viral on social media, Dr. Shiva Rajkumar, who was recently seen in 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's Jailer, reacted to the disruption of the Chikku press conference incident and issued an apology to Siddharth. Extending his apology, the Kannada superstar said, "On behalf of my film fraternity, I would like to say we are very sorry, Mr. Siddharth. I'm extremely hurt and such a mistake will not happen again. The Kannada people are good people and love all films and all languages."

Various groups in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been at odds after the Karnataka government was directed by the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) to release 3000 cusecs of Cauvery water at Biligundlu from September 28 to October 15. Chittha directed by SU Arun Kumar stars Siddharth alongside Malayalam actress Nimisha Sajayan making her Tamil cinema debut and revolves around the story of an uncle and her niece, and has been getting largely positive reviews.
