Filmmaker-actor S J Suryah's next big film is the highly-anticipated Mark Antony starring Vishal in the lead role. Directed by Trisha Illana Nayanthara fame Adhik Ravichandran, the upcoming film is scheduled for a grand release in theatres on September 15 and is billed to be a time-travel entertainer. With only a few days left for the release of Mark Antony, S J Suryah recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Galatta to talk about the film and why he says it can be called Maanaadu 2. Informing that Mark Antony is not a spoof of any previous films, S J Suryah said, "It's a very freaky entertainer. It's like a new genre and Adhik sir is the man behind its creation."

Explaining that Mark Antony can be called Maanaadu 2, S J Suryah stated, "Maanaadu is a time-loop film wherein an incident keeps repeating as a concept." He continued, "Now, imagine an incident has already happened in our lives and we also happened to be a part of it. For example, a close friend of mine, back in the 1970s, died in a car accident. Fast forward to 1995 and imagine that I'm getting a phone, which gives me an opportunity to talk [to any person] back in time, and that's the concept. I'd then call my friend and tell him not to take that particular route to avoid getting involved in the accident. This isn't the actual story [of Mark Antony]. I'm just stating this as a reference."

S J Suryah further stated, "Adhik has written an awesome screenplay featuring elements like the past and future interspersed together in an understandable and entertaining manner." Giving further credit to Mark Antony director Adhik Ravichandran for writing a screenplay that revolves around two different time periods, S J Suryah said that the filmmaker has made a film that will be understood without any confusion while adding that the audience will have a good time.

Silambarasan TR's big comeback film, Maanaadu, is celebrating its first anniversary today (November 25) after releasing last year on the same date, and turned out to be a blockbuster success. Directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced under Suresh Kamatchi's V House Productions banner, the science fiction action thriller film featuring chart-topping music by Yuvan Shankar Raja crossed several hurdles during production, including being halted for some time during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, before becoming a box office money-spinner. With the end credits of Maanaadu hinting at a sequel, producer Suresh Kamatchi has now shared a video on the occasion of the film's one year anniversary, which has once again indicated the second installment.

The video showcases the journey of Maanaadu from being announced to its sensational release last year along with a clue that there indeed could be a sequel in the making. Towards the end of the video, which has been released with the hashtag #1YrOfMegaBBMaanaadu, we see the text, "Loop continues soon", thus suggesting the sequel is indeed in development. It is to be noted that the Maanaadu team had earlier expressed their desire for a sequel after the original film turned out to be Simbu's first venture to enter the 100-crore club. Editor Praveen K.L., for whom Maanaadu was his 100th film, too had confirmed in an exclusive interview with Galatta last year that director Venkat Prabhu has a line for the sequel, and it now remains to be seen when the project will become a reality. Check out the Maanaadu one-year anniversary special video below:

With Maanaadu 2 yet to happen, STR will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Pathu Thala, which has him playing the role of a don named AGR, while he is also attached to a venture titled Corona Kumar under Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara fame Gokul's direction. Fans are also waiting for an announcement for the Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu sequel after the original film released this year ended on a cliffhanger note and teased the next installment. Venkat Prabhu, on the other hand, is currently working on his Telugu debut, Custody, which is also coming out in Tamil and stars Naga Chaitanya in the lead role.
