Jayam Ravi's next big film, Siren, directed by debutant Antony Bhagyaraj and also starring National Award-winner Keerthy Suresh and leading Malayalam actress Anupama Parameswaran is all set for a big release on February 16. The leading Tamil actor recently sat down for a candid conversation with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, to talk about Siren, while also opening on his experiences in acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan films alongside 'Chiyaan' Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, and Trisha Krishnan.

Jayam Ravi, who portrayed Arunmozhi Varman in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan films, opened up on his screen time in the first installment released in 2022. Responding to whether he had any insecurities about a competition with the other lead stars in PS: 1, Jayam Ravi stated, "I don't know why, but I don't have any as such. I love positivity. I can't live around negativity at all and stay away from it. I believe that positivity is the only thing that's making me live. And, we all were on the film's sets like that. None of us had any insecurities because it is not a regular film. It's a film which the whole of the nation, at least the whole of Tamil Nadu was wishing to see come to the theatres. So, we too felt like the audience that this film is finally coming out. Even though I'm not there in the first half, what more can I ask than being the titular role of the film? That itself is a blessing and I was looking at it in that manner, and there was no room for any insecurities after that."

Jayam Ravi further explained, "I work for the film. I don't work for myself. Because if the film sells, I sell. If the film is a success, I'm a success. Otherwise, I'll be a pop star or something else. I'll be a YouTube star. For a feature film star, if the film works, it will decide whether you will remain or not. You can act as wonderfully as you can, but if the film isn't good, the people will not watch. In fact, to address the word 'insecurities', the bear witness is that I do not appear in any scenes in Comali that do not include Yogi Babu. I can create scenes. I can ask the director to create scenes for me. But, there was no such thing and in fact, I told that I'll wait for him and stayed put at my home for nearly two months because that scene will work only then. And, when the scene works out, the film will be good. If the film works out, I'll get work or else there is nothing."

'Siren': Jayam Ravi explains why he didn't want to fool the audience with his salt-and-pepper look, says " It's no easy task..." (EXCLUSIVE)

Leading Tamil actor Jayam Ravi is gearing up for the release of his new action film, Siren, opening in cinemas worldwide on February 16. The film has been directed by debutant Antony Bhagyaraj and also stars National Award-winner Keerthy Suresh and leading Malayalam actress Anupama Parameswaran sees Jayam Ravi sporting a salt-and-pepper look for aged character, with the actor now explaining in an exclusive interview with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, about how he went grey for the role and why the audience can't be deceived with anything that is fake.

Explaining the process behind achieving the salt-and-pepper look in Siren, Jayam Ravi stated, "First of all, I don't want to fool myself. That's what I thought. When I look at the mirror, I wanted to look like a 45-year-old man and that's what I believed. So, I didn't want to fool myself. Then comes the audience. It's no easy task trying to fool them. There are techniques, I won't say you can fool them, but rather manipulate them. So, you can do using those techniques. You can show a person tall or short using graphics. So, there is an expense and expertise for that technique, and making them believe is something else. But, since I thought about wanting to play my character in an authentic way, they waited for nearly two months. Even I didn't know how the look would turn out to be. The director was also clueless about the getup. I would keep looking at whether the grey hairs were growing, but it eventually turned out fine organically. And, in that regard, Anu Parthasarathy (costume designer) did a sketch in a pattern and gave her inputs, with the director also sharing his suggestions, and so on."

Jayam Ravi further explained, "My character will be seen wearing a Rudraksha and many advised me not to go with it saying everyone else is doing the same. So, I told them, 'I haven't worn it to date. This is new to me. I don't need to know who is wearing it and who isn't.' The reason I needed it for my character is because he appears to be carrying belief within himself even though he lost it before. And, for that to be depicted, you require a presence. That symbol is the sign of belief and I think it worked out in the movie."

'Siren': Jayam Ravi reveals what got him interested to act in the film, says "It's a very twisted tale" (EXCLUSIVE)

2024-02-13T16:47:00 +05:30 siren jayam ravi opens up on not getting enough screen time in ponniyin selvan i mani ratnam - Movie Cinema News

Leading Tamil actor Jayam Ravi's first big film of 2024, Siren, is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on February 16 and sees him sharing screen space with National Award-winner Keerthy Suresh and leading Malayalam actress Anupama Parameswaran under debutant Antony Bhagyaraj's direction, and features music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar and a background score by Sam C.S. In that light, Jayam Ravi recently sat down for a candid conversation with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, to talk in detail about Siren, while also opening up on what got him interested to give his nod to act in the upcoming film.

Speaking about what made him agree to board Siren, Jayam Ravi stated, "The age factor maybe in the second place, but not at the top of the list. It's a very twisted tale. It's a new screenplay. It's very thin. It's a very old line. Adanga Maru was only about how a guy exacts vengeance for the murder of his parents. But, how the screenplay plays, how interesting it becomes scene by scene, how he gets things done sitting at once place, that's what created an interest for the film. So, I believe that Siren has that potential, maybe more..."

Jayam Ravi further explained, "The reason I'm calling it a twisted tale is because we have taken a linear line and tried telling the story in an interesting manner to keep audiences guessing in the game. During the narration, I got interested as the story began to unravel. And, Antony Bhagyaraj is a writer, who has worked in films like Theri and Viswasam, and I felt that his writing style was completely new. I believed that I had not done such a story. So, I got flashes of a story that happened before, which we call as a flashback. And, when that occurs, if we know the film language, the match cuts which happens between the flashback and the linear story, will be beautiful. It gets cut in the Siren symbol and all that were new to me. And, that is why I felt this film will definitely create something new."

'Kadhalikka Neramillai': Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen team up for Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi's new film, A. R. Rahman's next big musical treat - FULL CAST REVEALED

A project that has had Tamil cinema excited for quite some time, filmmaker Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi's next has now been officially announced. The upcoming film starring Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen in the lead roles has been revealed to be titled Kadhalikka Neramillai and will feature music composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman. The talk around Kadhalikka Neramillai began doing the rounds earlier this year and is Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi's next big project after the ZEE5 web series, Paper Rocket (2022).

Kadhalikka Neramillai, which marks Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi's next big directorial after her filmmaking debut Vanakkam Chennai (2013) and Kaali (2018), is touted to be a romantic drama and will see Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen share screen space with Yogi Babu, Vinay Rai, Lal, John Kokken, TJ Bhanu, Lakshmy Ramakrishnan, Vinodhini Vaidynathan, and singer Mano, who will be seen in pivotal roles. The film's technical team boasts of several talented names starting with Jigarthanda cinematographer Gavemic Ary, editor Kishore of Aval fame, costume designer Kavitha, choreographers Shobi master, Sandy master, and Leelavathi, and publicity designer Gopi Prasannaa.

There is quite a lot of anticipation for Kadhalikka Neramillai, which was initially referred to as JR 33, as it is one among the several high-profile projects for Jayam Ravi, who also has in his lineup films Brother, Siren, Genie, and Thug Life alongside 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan. Likewise, Nithya Menen, who became the darling of the masses across Tamil Nadu after her role in Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam last year, is another big USP of the film, which is expected to open in cinemas in 2024. Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi will be looking to come out firing on all cylinders with her Kadhalikka Neramillai considering her Paper Rocket web series garnered a positive response.

Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi's Kadhalikka Neramillai created instant excitement after it was revealed that A. R. Rahman is composing the songs and the background score, and fans will be looking forward to the 'Oscar Nayagan' coming out with chart-topping hits once again. Interestingly, the team has opted for the title of the film to be from the yesteryear romantic comedy blockbuster, Kadhalikka Neramillai (1964), which starred Tamil cinema stalwarts Balaiah, Muthuraman, Nagesh, Rajasree, Sachu, Ravichandran and Kanchana, and went on to become a blockbuster, while garnering a cult classic status.

Jayam Ravi's big Diwali treat is the teaser of his new film titled Siren directed by debutant Antony Bhagyaraj featuring music by National Award-winning composer G. V. Prakash Kumar. The leading Tamil actor, who kicked off 2023 with Agilan and followed it up with the blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan: 2, while being seen last in Iraivan, is set to wrap the year on a high note with the upcoming action drama, which also stars National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh as the female lead, while Anupama Parameswaran is appearing in a key role. Announced to come out as a grand pan-Indian release this December, Jayam Ravi's much-awaited Siren teaser is now out and gives audiences the first glimpse at the high drama and the intense action in store in cinemas.

The Siren teaser starts off with Keerthy Suresh's voiceover, who is heard talking about an ambulance driver revealed to be none other than Jayam Ravi. We next hear her say that he's been waiting patiently to get out of jail as she then says that he finally gets an opportunity to leave the confines of the prison after a 16-year wait. Another part of the Siren teaser is Jayam Ravi's voiceover, who in the beginning is heard saying that he and 250 other inmates are "special" while adding that they all are where they are now because they became killers. He's then heard saying how he and the other convicts need to think about clearing their names from the mistakes they have committed rather than just stepping out of jail.

The Siren teaser revolves around plenty of wordplay between Jayam Ravi and Keerthy Suresh's characters, with Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, and Azhagamperumal, among others also making appearances, and the plot hinting at an individual facing the consequences for the wrong actions committed by someone else. The visuals in this latest glimpse are fast giving the narrative a racy feel along with an ample amount of action, romance, comedy, and sentiment packaged together and will appeal to the family audience demography. Siren looks to be promising based on the teaser released and Jayam Ravi's salt-and-pepper look showcases his character's arc and age in the story, while Keerthy Suresh is playing the role of a police officer, who has donned the khakhi for the second time after Saani Kaayidham (2022), which featured her as a constable.

The PS: 2 actor said, "Actually, they performed a caesarean delivery on her and took me inside the room where her surgery was going on. When they gave her the mask, I saw her getting unconscious and I began to faint when I witnessed that. When I turned around, I saw them putting markings on her (for her delivery)." Aarti chimed in saying, "When I turned around, he wasn't there. When I became unconscious, he fell down. Later, he was sitting on the side as though he was undergoing a surgery. My mother-in-law slapped him and kept asking what was going on with him." Jayam Ravi then added, "She gave me a tight slap because I was unconscious. In the midst of all this, my second son Ayaan was born. When I heard his voice, I went (and saw him) and it was a divine connection."

I didn't ask whether the child was a boy or a girl. All I asked was how was Aarti doing?" The actor then jokingly added, "I get to say this only when there's an interview."

Leading Tamil actor Jayam Ravi is scaling new peaks these days with the stunning success of Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which has crossed 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in the first two days of its release. With the epic historical action adventure film set to become yet another memorable blockbuster in Tamil cinema, the actor recently took part in a special fans festival organized by Galatta Media, which also saw his family members, including his wife Aarti Ravi grace the grand occasion.

At the Jayam Ravi fans festival, Aarti went on to explain the big efforts the actor had taken to support her during the pregnancy of her first son, Aarav. She said, "Actually, when Aarav was born, he (Jayam Ravi) wasn't here in the city. He had planned to be here, but my delivery happened much earlier. He was in Paris at the time. So, Aarav was born when he wasn't here. It is very special to everybody, but as a wife, I understand his job. During pregnancy, when I was sick, he would catch my vomit in his hands when I vomited. He's done so many such things for me. He would stay by my side. Be it at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., if I said I wanted to eat something, he would get up." She added, "I wouldn't think about his shooting schedules the next day. When I say I want it at that time, he'd come and get it for me. He'll go back to sleep at 5 a.m. and then head for the shooting. So, as a husband, I will say that he's more than a 100 percent. I always wish that everyone must be like him as a husband. And, this trait has come to him from his father. I've seen how his parents are. I often used to think that we should be like them. I would tell my father that he's made it to 80 percent. My father would then say, 'He'll become 100 percent when he gets to my age."
