Veteran Drums player, music conductor and percussionist Purushothaman passed away yesterday on the 19th of May. He was 65 years old and has been working with Isai Gnani Ilayaraja for over 40 years. Purushothaman was suffering from a few medical issues and had been under treatment for a while. His wife had passed away very recently, the couple have two children. Purushothaman has been working with Ilayaraja for over 4 decades, almost from his first film Anakali, till now. He was a drummer basically; he used to play drums and other percussions and also used conduct the orchestra. He has worked with him in almost all Ilayaraja projects including non-film projects like How to name it and Nothing but wind. 
 
Purushothaman’s death is not only a huge loss to Ilayaraaja but to the entire musical fraternity. Music directors like SS Thaman and Sean Roldan have expressed their grief on Twitter - “Puru uncle the #grooveman for the legend #ilayaraja sir The man who introduced digital rhythm programming in 1980’s . Very loving caring person encouraged me a lot in my struggling days with his machines to study & learn . Rest in peace uncle We miss U #purushothaman” - SS Thaman

Director Mysskin's comeback film as a director after a gap of three years, the recently-released, Psycho, stars Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead role and hit theatres worldwide on January 24. Mysskin has returned as a director with Psycho after he made the hit detective mystery thriller, Thupparivaalan, with Vishal, in 2017.

With promotions for the film still being carried out by the makers, an intense new Psycho sneak peek scene has been released where we see actor Rajkumar Pitchumani playing the character named Angulimala stabbing an unsuspecting young girl repeatedly.

Director Mysskin's upcoming film, Psycho, being planned for a worldwide release on January 24, is one of the most anticipated films of 2020 as it marks the critically-acclaimed filmmaker's first film after Thupparivaalan in 2017. A psychological thriller, the upcoming film has Udhayanidhi Stalin playing the lead role with Nithya Menen and Aditi Rao Hydari as the female leads and features music by 'Isaignani' Ilaiyaraaja. With less than three weeks left for the film's theatrical release, promotions for Psycho are taking new flight as the melody track, 'Neenga Mudiyuma' sung by Sid Sriram with lyrics penned by Kabilan has now been officially released online.

There is quite a lot of excitement surrounding Mysskin's Psycho as the film had an intense and thrilling teaser released not long back. Psycho, the upcoming psychological thriller film is written and directed by one of the most acclaimed directors in Tamil cinema Mysskin. Psycho feature Udhayanidhi Stalin, Nithya Menen, Aditi Rao Hydari, Ram, Singampuli and Shaji Chen in important roles. A tribute to Ilayaraja

Chennaitainment, an entertainment and events firm run by Vanitha Vijaykumar, organised a retro Tamil cinema night in Chennai on Wednesday at the Karma in Le Waterina. The concert was a tribute to the evergreen Ilayaraja numbers from the 1980s, the golden era of Tamil cinema.

Music by Venkat Ramani was the main highlight of the event which was attended by many Kollywood celebrities.

India's music maestros A.R. Rahman (who rose to the top of world music last year by winning two Academy Awards) and veteran Ilayaraja have been conferred with the Padma Bhushan in this year's Republic Day awards. Bollywood star Aamir Khan was also conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

Padma Bhushan for A.R. Rahman, Ilayaraja and Aamir Khan

India's music maestros A.R. Rahman (who rose to the top of world music last year by winning two Academy Awards) and veteran Ilayaraja have been conferred with the Padma Bhushan in this year's Republic Day awards. Bollywood star Aamir Khan was also conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

Bollywood veteran Rekha, Saif Ali Khan, sound engineer Resul Pookutty and Arundhati Nag have been conferred the Padma Shri.
