Thala Ajith sustains minor injury during the shoot of Valimai - important details here!
By Arvind Sundaram | Galatta | 06:36 PM
A film that has been carrying sky-high expectations right from the beginning of its announcement last year, 'Thala' Ajith's upcoming Valimai being directed by H. Vinoth wrapped up its second schedule a few days back. Touted to be an intense action drama with plenty of elements that will appeal to family audiences as well, Valimai's second leg of filming took place at the grand Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, where an action sequence with Ajith was shot, with the actor revealed to have reportedly sustained a minor injury during the shoot.
However, he immediately bounced back to filming the scene after undergoing appropriate treatment and rest. We are informed by our close sources that Ajith is doing well and is completely fine. The Valimai team is expected to resume production once again in a few days' time. The upcoming film is the second consecutive time Ajith, H. Vinoth, composer Yuvan Shankar Raja and producer Boney Kapoor are collaborating after last year's critical and commercial hit Nerkonda Paarvai, which was an official remake of the hit Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu starrer Pink.
Valimai is being produced under Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP banner and had begun shooting at the start of the year, before production was forced to be brought to a halt in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent nationwide lockdown. Fans are particularly ecstatic that H. Vinoth, who is known for his research and detailing in his films, will be bringing the same kind of intensity to the screenplay of Valimai. Considering it is not a remake and is an original film on the lines of his previous ventures such as Sathuranga Vettai and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, there is tremendous belief that he will deliver the goods once again this time.
Ajith too will be looking to hit the bullseye yet again after his 2019 turned out to be a terrific year in his career as both Viswasam and Nerkonda Paarvai turned out to be rousing box office successes. The upcoming film has been carrying tremendous hype as it has been revealed that there will be high-octane action sequences. Based on the reports of the stunts in Valimai, there are massive expectations among the actor's fans that he will once again treat them to a visual feast as he has done with his daredevilry in the past.
Apart from Ajith, Valimai will also include Karthikeya who is speculated to be playing the antagonist, with Kaala fame Huma Qureshi as the female lead, followed by Yogi Babu, Raj Ayyappa, Saranya Ravichandran among others forming the supporting cast.
Valimai director H. Vinoth's new look | Thala Ajith | Boney Kapoor | Yuvan Shankar Raja

Coming out with successful films on a consistent basis is a mighty tough task in Tamil cinema and any film industry considering there is always a heavy competition. In that light, director H. Vinoth, who made head turns with his 2014 heist thriller film Sathuranga Vettai, made heads turn while also winning the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Storywriter for his work. He then collaborated with Karthi in 2017 for Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, which as well fetched him critical acclaim, with the film turning out to be a box office blockbuster. Fast forward two years later, H. Vinoth hit the bullseye yet again and this time with 'Thala' Ajith in Nerkonda Paarvai, which turned out to be the biggest box office success for the filmmaker.
An official remake of the smash hit Hindi film Pink, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles, Nerkonda Paarvai had Ajith in the role portrayed by the legendary Bollywood actor, while Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam and Andrea Tariang were cast in major supporting roles and, Vidya Balan made a cameo appearance. Produced by Boney Kapoor under his Bayview Projects LLP banner and featuring hit music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Nerkonda Paarvai fetched both H. Vinoth and Ajith for tackling a sensitive story, which spawned a discussion on topics like women empowerment and sexual harassment.
Post the success of NKP, Boney Kapoor once again announced a team-up with Ajith, H. Vinoth and Yuvan Shankar Raja for an action thriller titled Valimai, which as per reports wrapped an important schedule at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad earlier this week. The upcoming film has created massive expectations among Ajith fans as it has been revealed that there will be high-octane action sequences. With an important leg of filming now wrapped, a new picture of director H. Vinoth has now surfaced on social media. The Valimai director is seen wearing a face mask as a safety precaution against coronavirus and being greeted at the Tuticorin Airport before he reportedly headed off to Thiruchendur. 'Thala' Ajith fans have been waiting for a glimpse of the superstar for a while now and based on the quiet work the Valimai team has been carrying out, we can expect an update from the makers sometime soon.
Vijay Music channel announcement video - Vijay, Ajith and Suriya in single frame!
By Arvind Sundaram | Galatta | 05:31 PM
It was already reported that Vijay TV would be starting a new Tamil music channel under the name of Vijay music that will be exclusive only for music and songs. The channel was officially launched by Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan at the grand premiere of Bigg Boss 4 Tamil. After launching the channel, Kamal Haasan placed an important request to the management of the channel. He asked the channel to extend their support to the independent music industry, the songs that are created for the love of music. He cited examples where only film songs were popular and how we’ve been missing out to hear independent music tracks.
The independent music scene is slowly gaining momentum in the Tamil music industry and let us hope that it gets more popular in the coming years. We will have to wait for a few more months to know if Vijay TV took Kamal Haasan’s words into consideration. The channel has already started its broadcast and the people of Tamil Nadu have been requested to contact their cable network operator to add the channel. This channel could probably be a good treat for music lovers and let us hope that it gets a good reception from the people of Tamil Nadu. We will have to wait for a few more days to know about the programs that would be aired on the music channel.
The channel announcement has been done through a short song that is called ‘Jigilu Jigilu’. This song’s visuals have been interestingly done and it has got the potential to attract the masses. We see animated figures of leading actors from the Tamil industry, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, Vikram, Suriya, Dhanush, Simbu, Trisha, Nayanthara, Yogi Babu and others. The animated versions of the actors dance to the ‘Jigilu Jigilu’ song and it looks quite interesting. It keeps you hooked to the screens and the animation work is neat.
We might not practically be able to see Vijay, Ajith and Suriya share screen space together in a film or a song, but Vijay Music’s theme song has made that possible. Yes! Sounds exciting, right? Check out the promo video song of Vijay Music here:
SPB Charan responds to question on Ajith not attending SPB's funeral
By Vivek Raj | Galatta | 05:26 PM
The past two days have been trying times for legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam's countless fans around the world, who have been mourning at his demise. The 74-year-old singer-actor passed away on September 25 at 1.04 PM after being admitted to the MGM Healthcare hospital in Chennai on August 5 for testing COVID-19 positive. SPB's death stunned many around the globe, who have since been sharing their condolences, including celebrities and reputed personalities from various walks of life paying their tributes in memory of the iconic singer.
Having said that, SP Balasubrahmanyam's son, SPB Charan conducted a press meet on Monday to clarify various rumors that have been spreading since the death of the celebrated singer. One rumor addressed was in regard to actor Ajith's silence over SPB's demise for which Charan stated, "Ajith is my friend. Yes, he was a good friend to my father as well. Why is it such a big thing whether he had attended the funeral or not? He can mourn from his house too. That isn't an issue. Is that even a problem for us now? What if he speaks or not? You yourself are saying it's a rumor. Then, why are you allowing it to spread? Whether he mourns from his house and speaks to me over the phone, it is not necessary. This should not be made a subject of discussion. For us, my father is no more. This world has lost SP Balasubrahmanyam. We are grieving his loss and need time to overcome this tragedy. I get phone calls every day asking for clarity on every single issue. Should I take care of my mother or keep clarifying such issues? You all have such great respect for my dad. Please show us that mercy on our family at this time. I'm not going anywhere. I'll be back to working in cinema again. All I request is for us to be given some time to come out of this pain."
MGM Healthcare in a statement on Friday informed that SP Balasubrahmanyam had tested negative for COVID-19 on September 4, but his condition deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. SPB's voice has been the staple for many aspiring singers over the decades as the veteran had sung more than 40,000 songs in a glorious career spanning 54 years. SPB is survived by his wife Savithri and two children - daughter Pallavi and son SPB Charan.

Ponniyin Selvan sensation shares an unseen Ajith Kumar footage
By Galatta | 12:59 PM
Ponniyin Selvan cinematographer Ravi Varman is known for realistic and poetic framing sense. The ace cameraman was born in a village called Poyyoundarkudikkadu near Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. Varman lost his mother at a young age. Just before she died there was a wedding in his neighborhood and his mother’s image was accidentally captured by the wedding photographer in one of the photos. Varman went to the studio and asked for a picture to be enlarged and learnt what "out of focus" meant. Thus, he developed an interest in photography and grew up with a passion for watching movies – though at the time, he never considered working in film as a possible career. He later joined as assistant to Ravi K Chandran before debuting as a cinematographer through Malayalam film industry. His debut Tamil was Five Star which was produced by Mani Ratnam in the year 2003. Then worked in Autograph before getting his big break with Shankar’s Anniyan which released in 2005. Since then, there is no looking back as a cinematographer for Ravi Varman. He then worked in Vettaiyaadhu Vilayaadhu with Gautham Menon, then Dasavatharam and Villu. He took a break from Tamil film industry for close to 8 years after Villu since he was concentrating more on Hindi movies. Between 2012 and 2019, Ravi Varman has worked in some of the best made Hindi films like Barfi, Ram Leela, Tamasha and Sanju to name a few. He again returned to Tamil in 2017 with Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai.
He currently working with Mani Ratnam again for his magnum opus historical fictional entertainer Ponniyin Selvan. It’s been truly a sensational career for Ravi Varman. Now the ace cinematographer has shared an old memory on his Twitter. He has posted a unseen photo of himself with Ajith Kumar in frame with the text - “Golden Age.” The photo looks to be captured from the sets of Kandukondain Kandukondain in which his guru Ravi K Chandran was the cinematographer. Ravi Varman has not worked with Ajith Kumar so far and we wish they team up for a film very soon. Meanwhile, check out this unseen nostalgic old photograph shared by Ravi Varman.
