The coronavirus pandemic has thrown life out of balance across the world, with day-to-day activities of people from all walks of life getting severely affected, including economies of nations crippling with the passage of each day. The situation in Tamil Nadu too has been no different for nearly five months now, with the state government on Tuesday issuing a new media bulletin in regard to combating the COVID-19 outbreak. In the latest data released, 5,951 fresh positive cases have been recorded on August 25, taking the total number of cases in the state to 3,91,303. The total number of active coronavirus cases across the state including those in isolation as on today are 52,128 persons.

Chennai city today recorded 1,270 new coronavirus positive cases, with the district's total going up to 1,27,949 cases. The district continues to be the worst-affected in the state despite the number of cases seeing a downward trend over the past few days. The worrisome state of affairs that Chennai had encountered not long back is now being faced by the rest of the districts in the state. At present, Chennai city alone has 13,371 active cases, followed by Coimbatore and Cuddalore reporting over 3,000 active cases.

107 people died on Tuesday across Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19, taking the fatalities toll up to 6,721 persons. Meanwhile, the recoveries count continues to progress forward at a steady pace as the past 24 hours have seen 6,998 patients getting discharged, with the total number of recoveries going up to 3,32,454 and is also the first occasion the state has come close to recording nearly 7,000 recoveries in a single day. 

The total number of samples tested across in Tamil Nadu today are 70,221, which once again is high in comparison to the tests being carried out by other states across the country, while the overall tests conducted stands at 43,46,861. Likewise, the number of persons tested today are 67,888, with the total in the state going up to 41,99,492.
