Tamil Nadu government issued a new update on Thursday regarding the state's response in tackling the COVID-19 outbreak, which has claimed the lives of millions worldwide. In their latest media bulletin, 2,141 new positive COVID-19 infection cases were recorded on June 18 taking the total number of cases in the state to 52,334. This is the second consecutive day that Tamil Nadu has registered over 2,000 positive COVID-19 cases. Chennai has been the hub for the most number of coronavirus cases in the state with the district continuing to remain the worst affected as 1,373 new cases were recorded today taking the district's overall count to 37,070 cases. 

TN government also revealed that 49 people passed away due to the coronavirus with the state's death toll shooting up to 625. With the death toll in the state now breaching the 600 mark, the past three days have recorded deaths in the forties mark as 49 people died on Tuesday while 48 succumbed to the deadly effects of the disease yesterday. Meanwhile, the past 24 hours have yet again shown a significant improvement in the number of people who have made a recovery with 1,017 patients getting discharged taking the total number of people recuperating from the infection to 28,641.
