Tamil Nadu government on Monday released a new bulletin on the number of coronavirus cases in the state and the response to bring down and contain the infection, which has so far left over 2.5 lakh people affected across the country. 1,562 new cases have been confirmed on Monday with the TN's COVID-19 infection count rising to 33,239 cases. Chennai district has recorded 1,149 new cases in the last 24 hours taking the total to 23,298 cases as on May 30. 

The day also saw 17 deaths in Tamil Nadu with the deadly disease taking the state's toll to 286 to date. As for the number of recoveries, 528 people were discharged from hospitals across the state with the total now hitting 17,527, who have since been sent home. The most distressing aspect about the day's COVID-19 infection count are the 1,562 new cases recorded, which is the single highest to date for the state with Chennai city continuing to register the most number of cases overall.
