Tamil Nadu government issued a new update on Saurday regarding the state's response in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak, which has claimed the lives of more than 15,000 people across India. The latest media bulletin media shows a staggering 3,713 new positive COVID-19 infection cases recorded on June 27 taking the total number of cases in the state to 78,335. This is by far the highest count for the number of cases in a single day recorded in Tamil Nadu to date. Chennai has been the hub for the most number of coronavirus cases in the state with the district once again showing shocking figures as 1,939 new cases were recorded today taking the district's overall count to 51,699 cases. With the revised coronavirus cases count, Chennai city accounts to almost three-fourths of the cases in the state and is indeed a sign of big worry. 

TN government also revealed that 68 people passed away due to the coronavirus with the state's death toll shooting up to 1,025. Today's death count is the biggest to date in the state, which has now seen over a 1,000 people succumbing to the deadly effects of the fatal disease. Meanwhile, the past 24 hours have yet again shown a significant improvement in the number of people who have made a recovery with  2,737 patients getting discharged taking the total number of people recuperating from the infection to 44,094. 

As on June 27, there are 33,213 active coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu with the state testing 34,805 samples taking the total number of samples tested to 10,77,454. Likewise, 32,068 people were tested today as well taking the total numbers to 10,25,059 people tested in the state. 

Tamil Nadu Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar earlier today issued a statement saying the Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has issued an order approving the state to purchase remdevisir and other similar high-cost drugs and medicines for the treatment of the novel coronavirus patients.
