Kolaiyuthir Kaalam features Nayanthara as the lead with Bhumika Chawla playing an important role. The movie is and co-produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh. Kolaiyuthir Kaalam is a remake of the Hollywood film Hush.

Notably, Kolaiyuthir Kalam was announced as the first project under Yuvan Shankar Raja's production banner YSR Films and it was also announced that Yuvan will also be composing the music for the film.
