Popular yesteryear Malayalam playback singer, Gayathri Sreekrishnan was 85 when she had passed away on Sunday, 16th June at Narinder Mohan Hospital, Delhi. It was reported that after a rising fever , followed by a cardiac arrest and is survived by her son, a noted music composer and classical flautist G. S. Rajan and a daughter Sujatha Das. Gayathri Sreekrishnan debuted as a playback singer in cinema in the year 1956 through the movie, "Rarichan Enna Pouran". For the same she had also recorded a solo song which was a super hit.

She was also a voice artist in Kozhikode Akashavani and presented "Balalokam" program for children on the radio. Her husband is also a renowned Carnatic flautist G S Krishnan, who was also the station director of Akashavani.

Apart from singing and scripting radio plays, she also had composed songs. She also had once in a blue moon opportunity of partnering with the iconic singer Mohammad Rafi when he had visited Kerala. Anjana Rajan, daughter-in-law of Gayathri, is a Bharatanatyam dancer and theatre practitioner.
