One of the biggest blockbusters in ‘ThalapathyVijay’s career, Ghilli, was released in 2004 and was a film that had a theatrical run of over 200 days in Chennai.

Produced by A. M. Rathnam under his Sri Surya Movies banner, Ghilli was an action film directed by Dharani and featured Vijay and Trisha as the lead pair followed by Prakash Raj as the antagonist with all stars delivering breakout performances and Vidyasagar’s songs going on to become massive chartbusters.

Since then, Ghilli has gone on to earn cult status after being telecast several times on the television and has become a favorite among Vijay fans with the film being declared a wholesome entertainer.

Fast forward to 15 years later and fans have been hoping for a sequel to Ghilli with director Dharani too stating in 2017 that a story for Ghilli 2 is ready and would turn into a reality if Vijay gave him the nod.

That said, reputed producer T. Siva of Amma Creations had stated on the Red Carpet during the recently held Galatta BOFTA Debut Awards 2018 that he would make a Ghilli sequel, if an opportunity is presented to him. He quoted, “A film at the speed of Ghilli should be made for ‘Thalaivar’ Vijay!”.

T. Siva had recently made the Prabhu Deva and Nikki Galrani starrer Charlie Chaplin 2 and next awaits the release of hit director Venkat Prabhu's multi-starrer comedy heist film, Party, with his Agni Siragugal starring Vijay Antony and Arun Vijay in lead roles currently in development.
