Meanwhile, Vijay 63 has been in the news of late after an assistant director named KP Selvah made allegations saying the story of the film has been plagiarized and is his own.

The aspiring filmmaker during an exclusive interview with Galatta was queried as to how he can claim the film’s story as his own even when the Thalapathy 63 first look hasn’t yet been released yet. He responded saying, "Before responding to the question, I want to make it clear that this is a problem being faced by all top Tamil cinema heroes and not just Vijay alone. Why I say this boldly is because Vijay sir has been working on scripts over the last 8 years with A. R. Murugadoss sir and Atlee sir. Had anyone else acted in Mersal, the same problems would have cropped up. The same can be said about Sarkar too and similar problems that Vijay had come across would have been faced by other heroes as well. The problem is not Vijay sir, but A. R. Murugadoss sir and director Atlee sir. The issues that come their way eventually get associated with Vijay."
