It is well established that there is an underlying standard practice in the Tamil Cinema industry where filmmakers aim to release their films on the Friday of every week as it is a balanced gateway for getting in the family audiences to the theatre over the weekend. This slowly turned into a presumed practice over the years that it is now very unusual if a film does not release on a Thursday or a Friday. In certain cases, of course, this has fluctuated when the film is set to release during a festival or long weekends hence the release would be progressed by multi-day or more. Earlier it was made official that Thala Ajith's upcoming venture titled Nerkonda Paarvai is set to hit the screens on the 10th of August which happens to be a Saturday and it is the first in a very long time for a top hero's film to release on a Saturday. This surely has turned some heads around and the audience are quite intrigued to know more about this sudden change of plan.

It is to be noted that Ajith has a sentiment about releasing his films on a Thursday due to his likings towards Sai Baba as did director Siruthai Siva, who worked with Ajith in his last three movies. It is the first time Ajith is breaking that setting his next for a release on a Saturday.

We got in touch with some veterans from within Tamil cinema to hear their opinions on this. Ace yesteryear director SP Muthuraman stated that "Trends are subjected to change from time to time and maybe there is a very genuine reason behind this which only the makers are truly aware of it."

Sakthivela, owner of the famous distribution house - Sakthi Film Factory, states, "Of course this is quite unusual and when I first heard the news I thought this surely is an error. Knowing Ajith sir's history, there might be some superstitious reason behind this Saturday release. However, whichever day it releases, Ajith sir's movie will become successful at the box office!"

Voicing his opinion, distributor Tiruppur Selvam states, "Generally, when a movie's release is changed from a Friday, it would usually be due to superstition only. It would be interesting to know how the audience set their plans to watch the film"

Renowned industry analyst and producer G Dhananjayan says, "The makers might have been looking at the following week, when it would be a long weekend due to the Independence Day (August 15)! Producers might be thinking of cashing in on this!"
