SPI Cinemas is one of the most loved cinema chains. As of now, they own Sathyam, Escape, Palazzo, S2, The Cinema, Le Reve across India. They are known for their perfection which they maintain in every single aspect of a theatre.

Luxe Cinemas (then) and Jazz Cinemas (now) belonged to SPI group initially. Then Jazz group bought the property in October 2015. They opened Chennai’s first ‘IMAX’ screen in November 2015 with James Bond’s Spectre.

Palazzo Cinemas powered by SPI situated at Forum Vijaya Mall, Vadapalani (Chennai) opened in November 2015 with 9 screens (8 normal + 1 IMAX). But the Imax screen was not permitted to open by the Government for all this time.

Finally, they managed to get the license on 17th July 2018 and they opened their prestigious first IMAX screen on 18th July at 10pm with Marvel’s Ant-Man: And The Wasp. Fans are now in a joyous state. Our team got to catch up the experience last night and it was overwhelming. It is to be noted that, Jazz is costing Rs.552 per ticket (excluding 3D glass & online booking charges). But in Palazzo by SPI, the cost of one ticket is Rs.300 (excluding 3D glass & online booking charges). The quality is more or less the same in both the screens.

VR Mall which opened recently near Koyambedu, Chennai has a 10 screen multiplex owned by PVR Cinemas. Reportedly, it consists of 9 normal screens with 1 IMAX screen. It is expected to open soon. So with that, Chennai will have 3 IMAX screens.
