Social activist Palam Kalyanasundaram in Oliyum Oliyum

Oliyum Oliyum is a film that has hooked everyone’s attention in the film industry. Why? It has eminent social activist Palam Kalyanasundaram in it and is directed by Shakthi Chellam, who directed Kiran Bedi IPS in The Real Salute, a documentary with a theme of national integration and patriotism.

About Kalyanasundaram who acts in this film: A social activistborn with a silver spoon,he donated all the wealth he inherited to many orphanages. He even donated a major portion of his salary earned as a librarian to these orphanages and many children’s education trusts. He never saved any money for himself. In fact, after retiring as a librarian, he worked as a waiter in exchange for two meals a day and a meagre salary that he would regularly donate to the orphanages or children’s educational funds! Kalyanasundaram is really an extreme example of altruism!

There is no way that this epitome of altruism, who prefers to stay away from limelight, would act in films! But then Shakthi Chellam convinced him just as he convinced Kiran Bedi to become an actor.

The story of the film revolves around protagonist constable Govindasamy’s life in the pre-independence era. It stars many prominent actors, including Anand Babu and Pragathi. Newcomer Ashwadeep is the hero of this venture produced by two NRIs – Sivakumar and Rajeev Venkataraman – who wanted to give a good message to society through their film. Music is by Yani Jesh. Ravi is the cinematographer and Arasu is the editor.

Most importantly, this film will also feature a differently-abled Poongodi as the filmmakers wanted their film to be inclusive and set an example to the society. It isreally heartwarming to see all these developments in Kollywood. With repeated emphasis on inclusiveness and goodwill, Kollywood will definitely bring about a healthy change in society.

PS: News about social activist Kalyanasundaram’s outstanding service to humanity reached USA and it recognized him as Man of the Millenium and awarded him Rs. 30 crores, which he promptly donated to his favourite charities!
