Mahadevan, husband of renowned Carnatic vocalist Nithyashree Mahadevan, comitted suicide by jumping into the Adyar River on Thursday. His body was retrieved by the police and send for autopsy. There are also reports that after hearing this news, Nithyasree also attempted suicide but was rescued. However she is reported to be in a critical position.
Mahadevan is survived by his wife Nithyashree and two daughters.
