REVEALED: Shankar's First Choice For Indian Before Kamal Haasan
Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 hit film, Indian, directed by Shankar with Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Being produced by Lyca Productions with music by Anirudh Ravichander and Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead, the film's first look was released for Pongal. With speculations surrounding the upcoming film's casting rife, reputed director Vasanthabalan has now revealed interesting details on the original film.
Director Vasanthabalan, who earlier served as an assistant director in Indian shared insider info on his Facebook page regarding the 1996 hit film. The Veyil director stated that Rajnikanth was initially interested to do a film with Shankar after the success of Gentleman. As a result, the project was first titled Periya Manushan until the script demanded the lead to play father and son duo, which later went to Kamal Haasan.
He further revealed that the team also had a backup plan to make the film with big heroes at the time - Sathyaraj as Senapathy and 'Navarasa Nayagan' Karthik as Chandra Bose if 'Ulaganayagan' decided to not be part of the film.
