Towards the end of last week, we had reported actor Rajinikanth and young acclaimed filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj had met. Rumors sprung immediately this could be for a film and the news is now indeed true

It has just been confirmed 'Superstar' Rajinikanth will be joining hands with Karthik Subbaraj under the Sun Pictures banner for a film, which at this point will be made on a "mammoth" scale.

It must be noted Rajinikanth already has two films lined up with Kaala coming out first on April 27.

His highly anticipated sci-fi action thriller 2.0 under Shankar’s direction is also being planned for a release later this year.

Karthik Subbaraj too has a release on April 13 in the form of his silent thriller, Mercury, starring Prabhudeva and Remya Nambeesan.

Rajinikanth teaming up with Karthik Subbaraj shows the 'Superstar' of Indian cinema is still willing to go to lengths to experiment with young directors.

In addition, the upcoming film will mark the second time Rajini will be working under the Sun Pictures banner after the 2010 blockbuster, Enthiran.

Sun Pictures producing the film also makes it the second venture they are producing this year after Thalapathy 62 with Vijay under A. R. Murugadoss's direction.
