On Sunday, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch arrested popular actor Amala Paul on the grounds of tax evasion after she allegedly bought a luxury car in Pondicherry with fake documents.
The EOW team led by Superintendent of Police K. V. Santhosh Kumar stated Amala Paul had appeared with a lawyer, but her arrest wasn’t recorded. As of now, it is said an evaluation of her statements is being done after which a decision on whether or not her arrest needs to be recorded will be taken.
Amala Paul in her statement cited she had rented only a building in Pondicherry. However, evidence of another rent agreement in the same address during the same period was presented to her by investigators for which she stated it was rented in January last year and it was only seven months later that a formal rent agreement was created in effect.
At this point, it is said Amala Paul must present herself for investigation each time is summoned.
