The opening and initial few days' collections for big ticket movies like Kaala, Sarkar & 2.0 released in the recent past have broken records and were seen hitting the roof. However, while comparing these with the numbers of the Pongal releases - Petta and Viswasam, there seems to be a steep drop in the collections. We at Galatta analysed this and found a few plausible reasons for it...

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-4598819753511212" data-ad-slot="5395023069" data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

The mammoth clash of a same day release, between two of Kollywood's titans - Thalaivar and Thala, left theatre owners pulling their hair out. This battle caused a severe split in screens and this could also be a significant reason behind the drop in collections.

Till before this week, the Tamil Nadu government had allowed multiplexes to screen 4 regular shows and a special show (5th show) for the first few days from release. However, the TN government did not allow the same to happen for Petta & Viswasam and cancelled the screening of the special show.

Following the recent reduce in the GST percentage for movie tickets, their prices reduced considerably and that too could be a very important reason behind the fall in collections.
