The wheels are in motion for ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth’s Petta hitting screens as a Pongal 2019 release next month. A Sun Pictures venture, the film directed by Karthik Subbaraj features a massive star cast with names like ‘Makkal Selvan’ Vijay Sethupathi, Sasikumar, Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Simran, Trisha, Mahendran, Bobby Simha, Megha Akash, Guru Somasundaram, Sananth, Malavika Mohanan among others with chartbuster music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Meanwhile, there are now reports doing the rounds stating the theatrical rights of the Telugu version of Petta have been acquired by Ashok Vallabhaneni and will be a Sankranthi release next month. This will be his third big Tamil film being released in the Telugu-speaking states after he had distributed the Telugu versions of the smash hit Mani Ratnam multi-starrer, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s latest blockbuster, Sarkar.
Petta has been one of the most talked about films in recent times especially post the release of its power-packed teaser and pulsating songs with Sun Pictures a short while back announcing the film’s Tamil version had been censored with a ‘U/A’ certificate. It must be noted the film is also coming out in Hindi and we can expect plenty of excitement up in North India as the film’s release draws closer; especially after the stupendous response to Rajinikanth’s 2.0 that came out last month.
