In what can be described as one of the most controversial films to have been made in India till date, the yet-to-be-released Bollywood film, Padmavati, has now reportedly undergone a title change.

According to latest reports, the film Padmavati will from now on be called as Padmavat.

This Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari jointly produced under the Bhansali Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures banners has seen its share of problems after it was rescheduled from a release on December 1 to next year.

Reports further state the film was screened to the CBFC on December 28 and a U/A certificate has been issued with nearly 20 cuts suggested, which also include disclaimers of the practices of sati, jauhar and the ghoomar dance.

A meeting between Viacom18 and Sanjay Leela Bhansali will reportedly take place once the changes have been implemented.

In addition, a new release date is expected to be announced once these changes and three different disclaimers are added during the course of the film.

It must be noted that the film was submitted last month by Bhansali to a committee of historians and members of the Rajput community to watch and make way for its smooth release.
