Earlier this week, it was announced that the upcoming controversial Bollywood period film, Padmavat, also being dubbed in Tamil and Telugu would finally see the light of the day when it releases on January 25.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali under the Viacom 18 Motion Pictures banner, Padmavat starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles has been facing problems right from the start of its production.

With a new release date announced earlier this week, the film is once again facing issues as it has just been announced that Padmavat, formerly titled Padmavati, will not be releasing in Rajasthan as per the state’s Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje.

In a statement issued to the press, she stated, "Rani Padmini's sacrifice is a matter of honor and pride for the state and hence Rani Padmini is not just a chapter in history, but our dignity. We will not allow defamation of her honor." It must be noted that Rajput outfits have also been stating they will continue with their protests when the film comes out. We now need to wait and see what decision the makers next take to get the film out to audiences.

Meanwhile, another anticipated Bollywood film, Aiyaary, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee and Rakul Preet Singh has shifted its release date from January 25 to February 9 as per latest reports.

Padmavat now has only one competitor, the biggie, Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man.
