Social media has been abuzz over the past few days about actor Vijay and director Shankar teaming up for Thalapathy 65. The superstar is at present working on his Bigil with director Atlee and will next be joining hands with Maanagaram and Kaithi director Lokesh Kanagaraj for Thalapathy 64. It is true that discussions are indeed being held between Vijay and director Shankar for a film with reports now doing the rounds that their project will be a sequel to the 1999 mega blockbuster, Mudhalvan.

Initially, Mudhalvan was offered to Vijay back in the day and his association with director Shankar didn’t evolve then due to unknown reasons after which the role went to ‘Action King’ Arjun, who went on to deliver a power-packed and commendable performance. With the action political drama going on to become a major box office success, there have been several occasions where a sequel has been most awaited by fans and is now being spun around Vijay and Shankar's speculated project as Thalapathy 65.

Although nothing has been set in stone, the talk about Vijay going on to reprise Arjun’s role as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has left fans mighty excited and ecstatic. As of now, it remains to be seen whether Thalapathy 65 will indeed be a reunion for Vijay and director Shankar after their Nanban or if it will be Mudhalvan 2 or a completely new script. Shankar too has his hands full with the much-hyped, Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal and will roll into production in the days ahead.
