Superstar Mohanlal has sent a Rs 50 crore defamation suit against Kerala government’s Khadi Board. The star had sent the notice to Shobhana George, vice-chairperson of the Board, alleging that the latter’s comments had affected his public image.

He also asked Shobhana to issue an apology in leading newspapers and media. Lal and Board earlier traded accusations when the star was featured in an advertisement for a leading private textile firm. The ad had showed the actor spinning a traditional wheel. The Board had sent a notice to Lal, claiming that the ad will affect their profits. The private firm had withdrawn the ad, following the incident.

However, Shobhana responded by saying that Board will approach the court on the issue. The cash-strapped organisation has no capacity to pay such a huge amount, she clarified.
