Actor Vijay is one who commands a sea of fans across south India. His popularity has shot up over the years in Tamil Nadu and Kerala after delivering blockbuster films on the trot.

In that light, his Mersal released last year has now hit yet another high. The action drama, which shed light on the various discrepancies in the field of medicine struck a chord with the masses and won hearts everywhere.

As on today, January 25, Mersal celebrates its 100th day in theatres after coming out last year on October 18 as a Diwali treat - a feat not many films manage to accomplish these days especially with video piracy being a big trouble for filmmakers and producers.

An engaging plot infused with the charm and adulation that Vijay commands helped propel Mersal to heights like landing a double nomination at the National Film Awards UK.

Mersal portrayed Vijay in a whole new dimension with the actor shuffling between being a subdued character (Maran) and one who is bursting with excitement (Thalapathy) apart from the jolly magician (Vetri).

Directed by Atlee under the Thenandal Studios Limited banner with music by A. R. Rahman, Mersal also had Nithya Menen, Samantha Akkineni and Kajal Aggarwal as the female leads alongside SJ Suryah as the antagonist and Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Kovai Sarala, Sathyan, Motta Rajendran among others in supporting roles.
