After a brief gap followed by Ayyanar (2010), pretty actress Meera Nandan signed a Tamil film Sooriya Nagaram, a poetic love story set against the backdrop of Madurai.

Based on a real-life incident involving an ex-convict who was released on compassionate grounds, Sooriya Nagaram is directed by newcomer Sellamuthu, former assistant to Keeyar and P. Vasu. Moscovin Kaveri fame Rahul Ravindran is the hero. Meera plays a village belle in this film.

"I play a village belle and it’s a meaty role," Meera said. Asked why she has not been seen in Tamil films for quite some time, she said: “I am busy with a handful of flicks in Malayalam and Kannada. I give priority to characters that offer scope for acting and don’t want to be a mere glam-doll heroine." Sooriya Nagaram has music by Fen Viyalee and lyrics by Vairamuth.
