The release of Dhanush's Mariyaan has been postponed to July to avoid clash with Ambikapathy, the dubbed version of the actor's maiden Bollywood flick Raanjhanaa. Mariyaan, directed by Bharatbala, is expected to be a hard-hitting realistic drama. The film is inspired from a real-life incident where Indian fishermen were taken as hostages in Sudan.

Mariyaan cleared the Censors with a clean U certificate. Dhanush and Parvathi Menon are the leading stars while music is composed by A.R. Rahman. The film is produced by Ravichadran under  Aascar Films.
