Legendary Tamil writer and politician Kalaignar Karunanidhi passed away at 6.10pm on 7th August.

Tamil Nadu Government announced that his cremation cannot be done at the respectful Marina Beach due to pending cases at Madras High court. Instead, two acres of land has been allocated to bury Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s mortal remains opposite to Anna University near Gandhi Mandapam which is situated at Guindy, Chennai.

But the decision faced a heavy statewide opposition and Madras High court suddenly decided to take up the petition regarding the same at 10.30pm tonight itself. The petition was heard by High court Acting Chief Justice Honourable Huluvadi.G Ramesh.

After hearing the plea, the Madras High Court adjourned hearing the plea challenging Tamil Nadu government’s denial of land at Marina beach for the former chief minister’s burial to 8 am on 8 August.
