The next big star addition in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan
For a while now, since his Chekka Chivantha Vaanam released last year, there has been considerable talk on National Award-winning filmmaker, Mani Ratnam’s next. There have been reports stating the ace director would finally be working next on the adaptation of reputed Tamil author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s epic Ponniyin Selvan novel.
With reports doing the rounds that the Ponniyin Selvan film would feature ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram, Jayam Ravi and Karthi in lead roles, it was stated that ‘Makkal Selvan’ Vijay Sethupathi too was being eyed for the project, which the Kalaimamani Award winner had to let go due to date issues. Furthermore, it is said the female cast members are yet to be finalized with production being planned to kick-off from July.
Meanwhile, new reports are now floating around stating Telugu superstar Mohan Babu has been roped in for the Ponniyin Selvan film adaptation, who has apparently agreed in principle to star in the project, but is yet to sign on the dotted line. As of now, an official statement is awaited, which we can expect to be made in the days ahead.
In addition, it is said that the film would be jointly produced by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions after their collaboration in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam turned out to be quite fruitful.
It also remains to be seen who the music composer for the Ponniyin Selvan film will be as there are reports that say 96 fame Govind Vasantha is being eyed with an official confirmation now awaited.
