Lekha Sonoton in 1977

When you watch the trailers of 1977, you will hear a piece of pulsating Western music in the background. Also, you will find that the film’s background music (only for stunt scenes) is invigorating and purely Western, lending the film a Hollywood feel. Courtesy: Lekha-Sonoton Music Library.

This music library seems to be growing every day! Recently, Puthiya Vaarpugal unit held its re-recording in Lekha-Sonoton studio and was amazed by the huge collection of latest background music recordings.

Of late, Kollywood is filled with action movies of Hollywood quality – heroes sport heavily-muscled physiques, especially the famous six-pack abdomen; never hesitating to do risky stunts on their own to make them look realistic; and most of the films have exquisitely choreographed stunts by international stunt choreographers. But the background music has remained unchanged. So, Lekha-Sonoton decided to change all this; its founder Lekha Rathnakumar went to Sofia (capitalof Bulgaria) to record various musical compositions that could be used during stunts. Thanks to his initiative, now Tamil films with stunts on par with Hollywood films will also have equally exciting background music.

The recording session was held in the sophisticated studio and about 180 artists specialized in symphony played the musical compositions. “I would like to thank music composer Gregor F. Narhoz and his crew and recording artist Gerhart Frei for their absolute support. They are brilliant!” says Lekha Rathnakumar. He also added that he felt at home because of their hospitality. Speaking about the modernity of the studio, he said that the studio is capable of recording the faintest noise. “Even if you breathe heavy, it would be recorded!” exclaims Rathnakumar.

Dinesh Kumar, who directs 1977, stated that he and Sarathkumar were quite impressed with these new musical compositions available at Lekha-Sonoton and they decided to use it in their trailer right away. Soon, they will use it for stunt scenes too.
