Back in 2016, fans were in for a massive surprise when it was announced National Award-winning actor Dhanush would be teaming up with acclaimed young filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj for a film.
Since then, Karthik Subbaraj had gone on to make the drama, Iraivi, which went on to garner immense critical acclaim and soon after a cult status.
Dhanush fans have since then been wondering what had happened to the project, which when announced generated quite a lot of excitement.
Fast forward to 2018 and it was announced in February that Karthik Subbaraj would be instead be working on a film to be produced by Sun Pictures featuring one of the biggest and most iconic stars of the nation, Rajinikanth.
Tentatively being called Thalaivar 165 at this point, this film will have music by popular young composer Anirudh Ravichander.
Apparently, Thalaivar 165 had been conceived during the time of Kabali and is seeing fruition now in production.
Meanwhile, Karthik Subbaraj recently confirmed that his project with Dhanush is indeed still on and that the two would begin work on it upon the completion of Thalaivar 165.
The Dhanush-Karthik Subbaraj project will reportedly be produced by Y Not Studios with the film to be set amidst a New York backdrop. The director further revealed a Hollywood actor will be cast in the film and that they had tried to get on board two-time Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro.
The reputed filmmaker then went on to state yet another Oscar-winner and acting legend Al Pacino too was approached.
In conclusion, Karthik Subbaraj added the action thriller film would revolve around a gangster theme.
