One of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Tamil cinema, Karagattakaran, released in 1989 remains etched in fans’ memories even today. Directed by Gangai Amaran with chartbuster music by ‘Maestro’ Ilaiyaraaja, the rural romantic comedy had Ramarajan, Kanaka, Goundamani, Santhana Bharathi, Chandrasekhar, Senthil, Kovai Sarala, Kanthimathi, Shanmuga Sundaram among others in starring roles.

The “Vaazhapazham” (Banana) comedy scene will evoke a laugh even now among fans even after having watched it innumerable times and continues to be used by meme creators to convey humorous content among youngsters.

We here at Galatta had earlier reported that a sequel to Karagattakaran is indeed under actoive development with the 1980s cult classic's director Gangai Amaran himself confirming the news. Although not much is known about the project in-development, it is believed the plot will most likely revolve around the sons and daughters of the prime characters that appeared in the original film.

Now, it has been further been revealed to us that the Karagattakaran sequel will flag off soon with veteran comedians Goundamani and Senthil also set to be part of the upcoming project. This will no doubt come as a huge joyous news for fans of the comedy superstars as their return in the venture will mark their comeback together on the big screen after a gap of 16 years when they last appeared in Vijayakanth's Chokka Thangam
