One of the most memorable films in the history of Tamil cinema, the 1996 blockbuster, Indian, was announced to be getting a sequel towards the end of last year.

Indian 2, as it is tentatively being called will bring back 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan and director Shankar back together after nearly two decades.

The film launched in Thailand in January is currently in its early pre-production stages and will reportedly be produced under the Lyca Productions banner.

Meanwhile, reports have now surfaced stating set work on Indian 2 will finally begin at Ramoji Film City next week in Hyderabad after which filming will kick-start in April.

Production is expected to be carried out in a single go with a major schedule also reportedly planned in Thailand.

As for the cast, we had previously reported that Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn’s name was doing the rounds for the role of a cop, who will be on the chase after Kamal Haasan in the film.

'Lady Superstar' Nayanthara is said to be the prime contender for the role of the female lead and if indeed she is cast, it would be the first time she will be part of a Kamal Haasan film.

Composer Anirudh Ravichander’s name has also been in the fray for the music in the film and author Jeyamohan has been confirmed for the dialogues along with T. Muthuraj for the art direction.

With Kamal Haasan already kickstarting his political journey, he will want to wrap up the film in quick time and, in a single long and fitting stretch.
