Jayam Ravi excited about Peraanmai

Peraanmai has been in the making for nearly 18 months, so obviously lead actor Jayam Ravi is as eager as the rest for the film to release. Directed by Jananathan, the movie promises to give Jayam Ravi the action image that Dhaam Dhoom endeavoured. “Jananathan hasthe guts and talent to create such a script and I think he has succeeded. This film can be made only by a person who is conscious and cares for the society and Jananathan sir is one such person,” smiles Ravi, who looks every bit fit toreduce twenty goons to pulp. “I had to look fit and lost about 13 kg for the film. I had to remain on a diet and avoid carbohydrates. It was hard work, but I think it has paid off. Action movies like Peraanmai belong to a completely different class. They require a specific look. My character is from a particular tribe, so I had to work hard to acquire that look.”

Peraanmai also boasts of a Hollywood association, with Roland Kickinger playing the baddy. Roland,a body builder, plays the title role in the latest Terminator movie. “It was a wonderful experience working with him. He’s a true professional. He may be twice as old as me but he was having as much fun as I did. He gave me tips on body building and was very helpful. Roland liked the whole Peraanmai unit and me so much that he came home and spent time with my parents. He liked the idly and chutney in particular. The man was emotionally touched when my parents presented him with a valampuri sangu (left-handed conch shell) and pattu(silk) veshtis. He had been telling me about how he had wanted to buy conches and so I asked my parents to get one for him. I wasn’t in town when he called on my parents. But I believe he was more than touched by the warmth and hospitality extended to him,” Ravi said.
