Ever since the trailer of Vikram's Iru Mugan has been released, there has been widespread speculation on the stereotypical portrayal of the character. In the film, Vikram appears in dual roles while Nayantara and Nithya Menen play the leading ladies. Vikram plays the role of a transgender antagonist (Love) and a RAW agent (Akhilan). Produced by Shibu Thameens, Auraa Cinemas has planned for a grand release.

In an interview to a leading English daily, Vikram has clarified that the character is not stereotyped and people should wait for the film to know more. "Everybody thinks that it is a stereotype since Love is outlandish. I know that the trailer has raised questions on the depiction, but you’ll have to wait to watch the film to find the answers. See, Love plays the arch-villain and comes up trumps every time. It’s only when you portray someone as weak or in a bad light that you need to worry if you’re ridiculing them; in Iru Mugan, I had a tough time getting the hero to keep up with Love," he was quoted saying.
