Few days back, it was announced that cinema theatres in Saudi Arabia will be reopened in March 2018 nearly three decades after movies were banned in the Middle-Eastern kingdom nation since the 1980s.

That said, there are now reports stating 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's upcoming sci-fi action film, 2.0, directed by Shankar under the Lyca Productions banner will likely be the first Tamil film to be released in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking on this, Lyca Productions COO, Raju Mahalingam stated, "The overall revenue for a big film production can increase by 30%. Since movies have now begun to open in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in India, we hope to release them in all three languages in Saudi Arabia too. A new market in West Asia, where a substantial number of Tamil and Malayalees stay, will be a big boost for our movies."

Being billed as the costliest Asian film, 2.0 produced at an estimated 400 crores budget featuring Akshay Kumar as the antagonist and Amy Jackson as the female lead with music by A. R. Rahman has now been confirmed for an April 2018 release.
