We had reported last week that production on the first part of National Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran’s upcoming action gangster drama, Vada Chennai, had wrapped up.

Announced to be a trilogy, Vada Chennai is being produced jointly by Lyca Productions, Vetrimaaran’s Grass Root Film Company and Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films with music by Santhosh Narayanan.

Starring Dhanush in the lead role, there has been much talk surrounding the release plans of the first installment of the film with latest reports suggesting the makers are possibly looking to get Vada Chennai - Part 1 in theatres as a Ramzan release, which would be in June.

Although the date isn’t yet set in stone, it would make sense to release the film then as the production team has plenty of time to wrap up the post-production and ring in the start of promotion works. It must be noted Vada Chennai has to its credit a power-packed supporting cast featuring names like Samuthirakani, Ameer Sultan, Daniel Balaji, Kishore, Karunas, among others.

Set amidst a North Madras backdrop, Vada Chennai will reportedly narrate the story a village and its people starting in the 1970 over a time period of 35 years .

Actress Aishwarya Rajesh is playing a girl rooted in the North Madras background.

Andrea Jeremiah’s role is at present kept under wraps and will most likely be a surprise attraction.

It is now a waiting game for the release date to be revealed. Let's wait and watch.
