Actress Jyothika had a stellar 2018 after giving commendable performances in Naachiyaar, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and Kaatrin Mozhi and is looking to carry forward the momentum this year as well with her Raatchasi hitting screens on July 5. Written & Directed by Sy Gowtham Raj under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner, the upcoming drama film includes Poorima Bhagyaraj, Sathyan, Hareesh Peradi in supporting roles featuring music by Sean Roldan. That said, Jyothika’s speech at the Raatchasi press meet has gone on to become a highly debated one among actor Vijay’s fans.

Jyothika Raatchasi

Jyothika stated she had read about the response to her film and came across opinions calling her as ‘Lady Samuthirakani’ and her film as just another Saatai. She stated, "The social message among these films might be the same. But, even if there are a hundred films that are made under the same context, it should be encouraged. There are many big budget films; some of which I too have been a part of, where one story is told differently by many and nobody is complaining about that. There will be a hero who romances three heroines, they come and perform action, there’s an interval, again a fight, some emotion." This response has not gone down well with a certain section of Vijay fans, who have interpreted Jyothika’s words as an indirect reference to the blockbuster Mersal.

Speaking further about Raatchasi, Jyothika said despite the comparisons to Saatai and Pallikoodam, films like these should be enforced by the society. The actress plays a school teacher, who is appointed for work at a government school after which she aims to bring about a change in the functioning of the institution and the system.
