Maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam is currently busy with the pre-production works of his dream project, Ponniyin Selvan, based out of the historical epic novel with the same name, penned by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The preparatory works for this historical biggie are on full throttle and we might expect this film to go on floors by the end of this year. The latest update about this film is that the screenplay is penned by popular actor Elango Kumaravel. People will definitely know him for his funny and emotional performance as Ravi Shastri in Prakash Raj - Trisha starrer Abhiyum Naanum.

Kumaravel also has films like Payanam, Uppu Karuvaadu, Kaatrin Mozhi, Kurangu Bommai, and the recent Sarvam Thaala Mayam to his credit. Kumaravel is more of a writer than an actor and he is a known figure in the literature and theatre circle. He has penned the stories for notable and famous theatre plays too. Now, he is all set to write the screenplay of Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam. This must definitely come as a big leap for the talented writer turned actor.

Interestingly, Kumaravel acted in an important character in the super successful Ponniyin Selvan theatre play, which has been happening since 1999. Elango Kumaravel is expected to be one of the screenwriters for this Mani Ratnam directorial and we might hear about the addition of few more names in the coming days. Since it is an ambitious project, it is quite obvious to see a lot of talents coming together to create a film.

Let us wait for an official announcement on Kumaravel's inclusion. The film's speculated star cast includes the likes of Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Keerthy Suresh, Anushka, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sathyaraj, and many others. Stay tuned for more updates on this film!
