Balu Mahendra's last directorial venture Thalaimuraigal has won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration. Starring himself in a prominent role, the film is about a grandfather and grandson relationship. With a relatively low-profile star cast, the film was produced under Sasikumar's Company Productions. Legendary director Balu Mahendra passed away after the release of this film, making it his last film.
