Azhagar Malai music review

Azhagar Malai marks the heroic debut of R.K., the villain in Ellam Avan Seyal. Banu, who got introduced in Vishal’s Tamirabharani, is R.K.’s heroine. Music is by maestro Ilayaraja. It is indeed one of the most-awaited albums of the season.

‘Kizhakku Velukkuthu’ is a solo by Madhu Balakrishnan. This frills-free number reminds us of the pure melodious songs in Ilayaraja's old and evergreen music. Ilayaraja’s ‘Ulagam Ippo’ is a philosophical number that really matches with Ilayaraja’s views andreal-life persona. Everyone is waiting to see the maestro’s on screen appearance for the song. ‘Unna Enakku’ is by Ilayaraja’s daughter Bavatharini. A clean articulation of the tune and clear pronunciation of thelyrics highlights Bavatharini’s prowess and training in music. ‘Enna Senjalum’ is a well-structured duet by Benny Dayal and Tippu. Wehear Ilayaraja’s sing in ‘Karukamani’. The music, singing andmood are neatly connected and presented well. The musical interpretations of Madhu Balakrishnan and Reeta in ‘Muthamma’ are thoroughly enjoyable. In many places, it reminds us of one of Ilayaraja’s old hits ‘Sandhakki Vanda Kili’ from Dharmadurai.

It is indeed a heart-warming album from Ilayaraja.
