John Anthony (62), a popular guitarist based out of Kerala passed away on the 18th of January. He has worked in several films and was equally famous in the Independent music scene.

John was also part of AR Rahman’s band called Roots. Apparently, AR Rahman visited John’s house recently when he went to Kerala. AR Rahman took to his Twitter space to share his condolence message along with a photo of John Anthony.

John was well known for fusing classical Indian music with western genres like blues and Jazz. He is one of the very few musicians who has a strong knowledge in both western as well as Carnatic music.

Music director Santhosh Narayanan also expressed his displeasure on hearing this sad news – “It is a rude shock to hear that my dear musician and splendid guitarist John Anthony is no more. Prayers to his family and friends. A big loss to art. Cannot forget the days we spent together as independent travelling musicians. Rest in Peace sir !”
