It wasn’t long back 'Superstar' Rajinikanth had announced his entry into politics.

With the veteran superstar now actively making political statements, a rumor about his upcoming action drama film, Kaala, has now turned out to be true.

Up until now, it was being rumored Kaala directed by Pa. Ranjith under the joint production of Dhanush's Wunderbar Films and Lyca Productions banners would include a political message.

Now, those rumors have indeed been admitted to be true by actress Anjali Patil, who is playing a key role in Kaala.

Anjali Patil during a recent media interaction spoke about Kaala and her role in the film saying, "My character too takes her name after Rajini sir’s real name. I am named Puyal Charumati Gaekwad. I play a feisty young Tamil-speaking Marathi girl born and brought up in Dharavi."

When queried if she is romantically involved with Rajinikanth in the film, Anjali went on to clarify saying her co-star Huma Qureshi will be his love interest. She said, "Huma (Qureshi) plays his romantic interest. I have a very interesting stand-alone part."

Questions were then posed regarding her character in Kaala when the young actress went on to state, "This film is very different from Rajini sir’s usual films. It has a strong political message. I play a character that propels the plot forward. So I can’t crib about getting a raw deal. Because I got to do exactly what I was promised by Pa Ranjith, nothing more, nothing less. I’ve some very powerful scenes. Some of them with Rajini sir."

Anjali Patil further went on to state the film will include a big Marathi influence saying, "We shot half the film in Maharashtra and the other half in Tamil Nadu. It does have a strong Marathi element in the storytelling. That’s why I was chosen."

Although announced for a release on April 27, there are big doubts now regarding Kaala coming out on screens owing to the ongoing Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) strike.

Featuring music by Santhosh Narayanan, Kaala includes an ensemble star cast with names like Nana Patekar as the antagonist followed by Easwari Rao, Samuthirakani, Aravind Akash, Shayaji Shinde among others in vital supporting roles.
