A project still in its early stages of development that has left fans everywhere both curious and ecstatic, Ponniyin Selvan, will most likely be ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s next ambitious film as per reports that have been doing the rounds for quite sometime now.

Ever since news dropped stating that the six-time National Award-winning director was planning to make a film adaptation of acclaimed Tamil author Kalki’s epic Ponniyin Selvan, there have been various reports stating actors namely ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Keerthy Suresh and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were frontrunners for various roles in the in-development project.

Having said that, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has now officially confirmed at the ongoing 2019 Cannes FilmFestival in France that she has signed up for Mani Ratnam’s next film.

She further added that the Padma Shri awardee filmmaker is yet to formally make an announcement regarding the film, which as said earlier is most likely going to be the Ponniyin Selvan adaptation.

It must be noted that Aishwarya Rai was introduced to films by Mani Ratnam in the critically acclaimed epic political drama, Iruvar, in 1997 after which she went on to work with the filmmaker again in Guru in 2007 and Raavanan in 2010.
