The stellar success of 'Thalapathy' Vijay’s Mersal released last year is still fresh in the hearts of fans across south India.

Directed by Atlee under the Thenandal Studios Limited banner with chartbuster music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, Mersal had a power-packed all-star cast in the form of Vijay in triple roles, Nithya Menen delivering a breakout performance alongside Samantha Akkineni and Kajal Aggarwal as the female leads, SJ Suryah as the antagonist and Vadivelu, Sathyaraj, Kovai Sarala, Sathyan, 'Motta' Rajendran among others in vital supporting roles.

Mersal went on to shatter and create several new records both prior and post its release and, it looks like there's no stopping the film yet as it has now rewritten history once again.

Few days back, we had reported the 'Aalaporan Thamizhan' video song in Mersal had gone on to stack a record 20 million views on YouTube making it the most-watched video song of Vijay till date online.

Fast forward three weeks later, this time the lyric video of the song, which was released last year on August 11, has now gone on to stack a record 40 million views on YouTube.

It must be noted this marks the first time ever that a Tamil song has created this record emphasizing the track has indeed struck a chord in a massive manner with the masses and the classes everywhere.

With thumping lyrics penned by Vivek Velmurugan and an exquisite sound design, pulsating and foot-tapping beats and, a hum-worthy tune, 'Aalaporaan Thamizhan' has not only exceeded expectations, but has become an anthem of sorts for the Tamil people across the state.

Team Mersal must feel mighty proud this time too.
